A 1U distribution panel for our 7.5-inch rack: two to eight panel-mount barrel jacks across the front, on a shallow box behind with threaded bosses for a bus bar or a distribution board.

Still eight outlets. This is the one part in the line whose capacity does not fall with the width: a 190.5 mm panel leaves 160.6 mm of field, and eight of the larger 11 mm jack holes with two walls between each pair need 120 — so the narrow panel offers exactly what the wide one does. Eight is the product’s own limit rather than the panel’s.

4.6 mm at the jack, and that is the thread. A barrel jack is held by a nut on its own body, and a panel too thin runs the thread out before the nut bites. This is the reinforced section for that reason and no other.

Choose: the jack size — 5.5/2.1 mm or 5.5/2.5 mm — and how many.

You supply the jacks and whatever is behind them. A bus bar, a fused block or a bare board all bolt to the same four bosses.
