Raspberry Pi Zero Cluster Tray, 1U

Description

A 1U tray for our 10-inch rack holding up to six Raspberry Pi Zero, Zero W or Zero 2 W boards, in two rows of three.

Not wider than our Model B cluster — that would be the wrong story. A Zero’s port edge is 65 mm against the Model B’s 56, so one row of Zeros holds exactly the same three boards our other Pi cluster tray does. What a Zero actually buys is depth: 30 mm against the Model B’s 85, so two rows fit in a shallower unit than one row of the bigger board needs.

Front row forward, back row backward. Every board’s ports sit on one 65 mm edge, so a second row facing the same way as the first would point its ports at the backs of the boards ahead of it. Turned end for end instead, the rear row’s ports face the tray’s own open back — nothing is built there — so each row is reached from whichever side is actually open to it: the bezel for the front three, the rack’s own rear for the back three.

The rear row needs no mirrored parts. A Zero’s four mounting holes sit the same 3.5 mm in from every edge of the board, so turning one through 180 degrees lands its holes back on themselves. The floor’s clearance holes are cut the same way for both rows.

You supply the standoffs. A Zero ships without them, and the ones a customer already owns are the right ones.

Prints in two pieces: the bezel, with a window for each front-row board, and the vented floor. In the box: both pieces, eight M4 heat-set inserts pressed before shipping, and eight M4 x 10 screws.

Choose: one to six boards, depth, and floor venting.
