Description

A 1U tray for our 10-inch rack holding one to three Raspberry Pi Model B-family boards side by side — the official 85 x 56 mm envelope and 58 x 49 mm M2.5 mounting pattern, unchanged since 2014.

Three across a unit. Three boards are 168 mm of the floor’s 220, so they sit with 17 mm between neighbours and 9 mm at each end. A 6U rack becomes a twelve-node cluster in four units instead of twelve.

Side by side, not front to back. A second row behind the first would fit the depth easily and every board in it would have its ports facing the back of the board in front. Across the width, every board’s connector edge faces its own window.

A window per board, not one long slot. The material between the windows is most of what keeps a 4 mm bezel from flexing when three Ethernet leads are pulled at once — there is still 8 mm of it between neighbours at three boards, and each window clears the mounting slots by 6.6 mm.

Boards sit forward. Their front edge is 8 mm behind the posts, so the USB and Ethernet jacks — which stand about 3 mm proud of the board — end up just inside their window where a cable can reach them. Extra depth opens up behind the boards, where a HAT’s cables and a fan want it.

You supply the standoffs. A Pi ships without them, and the ones a customer already owns are the right ones. The floor carries four clearance holes per board at the official spacing.

Prints in two pieces: the bezel with its windows, and the vented floor. In the box: both pieces, eight M4 heat-set inserts pressed before shipping, and eight M4 x 10 screws.

Choose: one to three boards, depth and floor venting.
